Henry William George was born a BELBEN in the Abbas and Templecombe district of Somerset to parents George Belben (1854-1926) and Catherine (or Kate) Witt (1850-1929). He was the eldest of nine children. The first record of him as a blacksmith was when he lived in Ascalon Street in Battersea in 1898 from which point he always was a Belbin in official records. The photograph shows him with one of his two sons, probably John (born 1911) at his Battersea smithy. It is not really clear why the sign on the door reads B. BELBIN BLACKSMITH and if anyone knows do please let us know by adding a Comment. See UK Tree 6.
